Born in Kolkata Koyel got herself married with Hindustani Classical Music from her teens. She took first lesson from Shree pulin Chakraborty of Kirana Gharana. With the passage of time the child grew up to the maturity to go further down the line and started more and more ‘rewaaz’.The girl got into detail Maestro “Shree Nihar ranjan bandhopadhya Ex Head of the department of Hindustani Classical Division of Rabindra Bharati University.Shree Bandhopadhya started showing the torch by unfolding the mystery and melody of Bishnupur Gharana step by step. Now, Koyel got her feet into the real world of music and discovery of age old classical music.She has learnt the basics of Thumri and Dadra with sheer conviction and imagination.Time flows on and Koyel has become more and more elegant and true towards her delivery,perfection and compactness.The honour and reward also started showering on her to do the justice with this promising and talented lady with no delay. Shree Harashankar Bhattacharya the famous sitarist is also one of the main man behind her inspiration.Shree Bhattacharya is the uncle of Koyel.
Years of practice and dedication have given birth to a special talent. Presently a B high grade artiste in All India Radio, Koyel gives regular performances in television and radio. A lecturer of Rabindra Bharati University (distant learning).
She has already become a known face in the music circle of India. A woman of high dignity and personality, fully devoted towards the upliftment of Indian Classical Music. Her creativity and improvising abilities are noteworthy.
Musicians like Girija devi ji, Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan sahib, Parveen Sultana ji, Pt Debu Choudhury and many have showered with blessings and good wishes upon her.
